Blue Shield has some of the largest provider networks in the state – with both HMO and PPO access to thousands of doctors, hospitals, and specialty benefit specialists in California. Employees can often keep the same doctors when they make the switch to Blue Shield of California.
Our HMO network has approximately 44,000 physicians and over 325 hospitals.
Our PPO networks have more than 75,000 physicians and over 380 hospitals.
With our dental plans, your clients will have access to our national dental PPO network1 featuring more than 300,000 nationwide providers with more than 37,000 in California.
With our vision plans, your clients will have access to a national vision network2 featuring more than 29,000 providers, including more than 6,900 in California.
In addition, our top-tier provider discounts in California can lower an employer’s medical costs.
National network
Network access doesn't end at the state border. We also coordinate access to one of the largest national networks through our arrangements with other Blues plans and the associated BlueCard® Program.
BlueCard® Program networks and discounts provide the lowest-cost national coverage option from a single source.
Coordinating care abroad
Outside the country, the Blue Cross Blue Shield Global Care program gives members access to the healthcare coverage they need internationally. Your clients' employees will benefit from the BlueCross BlueShield Association's relationships with more than 400,000 providers around the world. We've developed Access Baja HMO, the first California-based, cross-border health plan for employees and their dependents to receive care in Mexico
