If you want to change to another Blue Shield dental or vision plan or make any revisions, such as adding or removing dependents, you can do so at any time throughout the year. However, to make sure your plan changes are effective January 1, you must submit your changes no later than December 31.

You can set up automatic payment with AutoPay℠ regardless of what Blue Shield plan you select. When you renew with Blue Shield your automatic payment will automatically be adjusted with your next year's monthly premium on your January bill which you will receive in December. Your enrollment in AutoPay will continue unless you cancel the service.

Premium help (advance federal tax credits and/or subsidy) applies to medical plans only.

Yes, even if you decide to purchase a new medical plan through Covered California, you can keep your dental, vision or life insurance plans directly with Blue Shield.

Blue Shield now offers dental plans through Blue Shield and Covered California. You can enroll a PPO or HMO dental plan from our available Family Dental plan options available through Covered California. You will still be able to choose from all our available plans however, our vision plans, and life insurance plans are only available directly from Blue Shield. To enroll in a Family Dental plan, you must have a medical plan from Covered California as well.

If you enroll in a plan sold directly through Blue Shield and a Blue Shield plan sold through Covered California, you will receive a separate bill per health plan provider. You will need to have a separate login to access your plan information in your Blue Shield account. And you will also have to manage separate autopayment programs for your plans.
