Where to get a flu and COVID shot

Most Blue Shield of California and Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan members can get their flu shot at no extra cost as part of their preventive care benefits.

You can get an updated COVID-19 vaccine when you get the flu shot. Check if your location also offers COVID-19 vaccines. Check with your doctor about getting the newly updated COVID-19 vaccine available in the fall.

Some members may have to pay a low out-of-pocket cost for the shots. This applies to: 

• Some pre-Affordable Care Act (2010) or “grandfathered” plans
• Some employer-sponsored, self-funded, or administrative services only (ASO) plans

Where to get your flu and COVID shots

Doctors’ offices or hospitals

All Blue Shield and Blue Shield Promise members can get their vaccines from their primary doctor (also known as their primary care physician).

You may need to call ahead of time to set up an appointment at your primary doctor’s office. Or you can ask to have the shot during your next visit. Your local hospital or community clinic may also be offering flu shots.

Retail pharmacies

If you have pharmacy benefits, you can get the flu shot at many in-network retail pharmacies. Find out if you have pharmacy benefits.

You may or may not need an appointment to get a shot. Age restrictions may apply and types of vaccines may vary.

Please call or check the pharmacy website for anything that you may need to know before you go. For example, if you need a high-dose, egg-free, or nasal spray vaccine.

If you cannot find an appointment at one of the locations below, you can use our Find a Doctor tool. This shows in-network pharmacies near you. Some local independent pharmacies may not offer flu shots.
